“In spite of its modern look, this new passive house in Spiddal, County Galway, fits seamlessly with its surrounds, taking inspiration from the forms of nearby agricultural outbuildings and former water tower. Providing plenty of light and views to the garden, the full height, energy-efficient windows maximise solar gains and comfort, while complementing the contemporary feel of the interior.” Image Interiors December 2015

New Retail Development Granted Planning by An Bord Pleanala

An Bord Pleanala has granted planning permission for a new retail development in the heart of Athenry town centre, stating that it will improve ’the vitality of the town centre’ and contribute to the streetscape. The proposed discount foodstore was designed by Helena McElmeel Architects to form an extension of the existing streets in the town centre. An urban design strategy was prepared to ensure that the design integrated into its street based context and enhanced the setting and views to and from nearby Athenry House and Athenry Town Walls.
